Top 20 most memorable teachers

To celebrate World Teachers Day’, the British Council conducted a poll which revealed Professor Dumbledore as the nation’s favourite fictional teacher. The list of 20 characters did throw up some curveballs, with a second Harry Potter character, Severus Snape, sneaking, as if by magic, into third position.
The crystal meth-cooking Walter White from Breaking Bad makes an appearance at number 9, while the teacher who has little time for his pupils (but far more time for their mums) - Mr Gilbert from The Inbetweeners - is ranked fourth in the poll.
It goes to show that the most memorable teachers are not always the nicest or – let’s face it – even the most inspirational. They’re often the ones with strange habits and idiosyncrasies that made us laugh and kept us sane as we were growing up.
