Guest Blog: internet safety training for parents
Sophie Linington, our deputy CEO and head of membership and training, reports from the frontline of Parent Zone’s vital work with schools and parents
What we know from delivering training to schools and local authorities is that parents often find it hard to find the time to attend a face-to-face session. We also know that for many of our school members, Parent Zone’s focus on the importance of parental engagement in their children’s world is crucial. So, we turned to our tech team to see how we can improve our membership offer for parents and the Parent Lounge was born!
The Parent Lounge is an area of our website dedicted solely to parents and is complete with our popular online parenting courses that parents can do from the comfort of their homes in their own time. This allows our school members to increase their engagement with parents, while knowing that they are receiving the best practical guidance.
The Parent Lounge brings together the best of our content from Parent Zone and Parent Info, plus FAQs and information on our help service and our groundbreaking online Resilient Families course. The Parent Lounge provides parents with a single place for all their digital parenting needs – and it’s completely free to our members. Once you join our membership programme, we issue you with a code you can share with the parents you support, giving them free and unlimited access to the Parent Lounge. You can also purchase access to the Parent Lounge if your child doesn’t attend a membership school.
Our research has shown that supportive and enabling parenting has the most positive influence on young people’s digital resilience – the Parent Lounge helps parents get the skills and knowledge to become confident digital parents raising digitally resilient children.
