Instagram Favourites: What we know so far about the photo sharing app’s newest feature

The popular photo sharing app Instagram has recently announced plans to introduce a ‘Favourites list’ feature to allow users to share pictures and videos with smaller groups of people instead of everyone on their follower list.

The hope is for Instagram to recreate the intimacy users feel when they’re in group chats on WhatsApp or Snapchat.

Users will have to add one another to their Favourites list in order to see their private images. This will be marked with a green flag to signal the image is only viewable by their Favourites. If one person removes someone from their Favourites list then they lose access to all that person’s private images.

There is no limit on the number of people that can be added to a person’s Favourites list. Instagram hopes this form of private sharing will help strengthen relationships by allowing users to post to a much smaller, exclusive audience.

At the time of writing, we haven’t had a chance to test out the new feature as it isn’t available to all users yet. There are plans to roll out the update during the summer.
