The Tech Shock podcast – Everyday Digital: a media literacy programme that works

“I can’t think of any family-facing professional that wouldn’t have – hopefully – some value in using Everyday Digital to some extent in their work. And I think that’s something that we really have experienced live, through our Local Champion network and the other programmes that we’ve done.”

Media literacy is featured in DSIT’S ‘Digital Inclusion Action Plan’, at the core of a three-year strategy by Ofcom, and appears to be embedded in the reviewed curriculum this coming autumn. It's also viewed by many as essential for combating mis- and disinformation as well as online misogyny and financial harms like scams.

Everyday Digital is Parent Zone's flagship media literacy programme. Originally funded by DSIT, it's designed to build critical media literacy skills in communities across the UK. The programme helps parents understand media literacy and build simple habits which can then be incorporated into their daily lives – and those of their children.

In this episode, Vicki is joined member of the Parent Zone team – and expert on all things Everyday Digital – Megan Rose to discuss what’s next for the programme, including how it’s being scaled to meet a growing need, and how professionals can get involved.
