Head of Creative

Salary £35,000-£40,000 (DOE)

Based: blended working with occasional attendance in our Islington office.

Parent Zone is looking for a fearless, innovative and adaptable Creative lead – who can develop new ideas and concepts to drive forward our projects and mission.

You will be able to switch tones and styles to adapt to audience needs, while understanding, channelling and enhancing the Parent Zone brand throughout. It might be building a new digital platform, scripting a school assembly or planning an animated video. Whichever, you’ll be brimming with energy and ideas.

You will be comfortable collaborating with partners like Google, Children in Need, Barnado’s, working closely with them to develop new resources and content. And you will be able to lead a team of writers – with excellent editing, management, planning and organisational skills. 

The role

You will work closely with the Brand Director to oversee Creative content output across digital, print and other media.

You will also work closely with the Design manager and Comms manager to oversee project delivery and consistently high quality outputs.

You will be a line manager responsible for the personal development of writers within the Creative function. This will involve regular 1:1s, appraisals and setting/monitoring key success indicators.

You will help develop writers on the Creative team to ensure a consistent and appropriate tone across all platforms. 

You will be involved in multiple forms of content creation, including educational material for primary and secondary schools, resources for family professionals, and much more. 

You will be comfortable with different audiences and tones: from scripting a primary school assembly, to crafting advice for young people and professionals about serious online harms.

As a senior member of the Creative function, you will also help shape Parent Zone’s marketing and comms strategy and content.

You will work closely with the Partnerships function to liaise with clients, including attending external meetings.

You will also help generate ideas and copy on our website.

Skills and experience

Essential

  • You will be an imaginative and innovative content creator, with the ability to develop new ideas and concepts.

  • You will have experience working at a mid-to-high level of responsibility on a publication or content agency.

  • You will have excellent people and line management skills.

  • You will have been part of a management team, developing effective and realistic strategic plans for Creative outputs. 

  • You will be a skilled and flexible writer and editor, capable of adjusting your style – or adapting those of others – for different consumer and professional audiences. You will be able to write and edit in a tone of voice that is warm, authoritative and appropriate.

  • You will also have an exemplary grasp of grammar, with sub-editing experience. 

  • You will understand creative production processes and schedules – able to oversee and manage a project from inception to publication.  

  • You will have an interest in parenting and the challenges facing families and young people in the digital age.

  • You will enjoy being part of a growing team - being agile, flexible and juggling several editorial projects at once. 

  • You will have excellent organisational and time management abilities. 

Desirable

  • You will have a strong understanding of the educational landscape, the priorities of teachers, and the needs of schools. 

  • You will have effective account management skills: be able to understand a brief, deal with clients in a responsive and sympathetic manner, and deliver what’s needed. 

  • You will be comfortable using a CMS, adept at social media management, and will be able to contribute effectively to editorial decisions about priorities, layout etc.

Communications Manager

Salary £35,000-£37,000 (DOE)

Based: blended working with weekly attendance in our Islington office.

The role 

 You will lead the Comms and Marketing Function – reporting directly to the Brand Director. You will be part of the Brand team, working alongside colleagues in our Creative Function. You will also work closely with our Partnerships, Public Affairs and Research and Development teams, to ensure our brand message is reaching all of our audiences – and to promote our products and resources effectively and successfully to those that need them. 

You will be a natural communicator and organised operational manager, with the ability to understand our priorities and translate them into compelling communications activity. 

You will be comfortable developing strategies to promote our products – delivering campaigns with our partners, such as Google, DCMS, Meta and Children in Need.

You will also be able to keep in mind our wider organisational mission and brand message, maximising our impact and helping us to ‘punch above our weight’. 

As a manager, you will know how to write and execute communications plans that can leverage and develop our ‘routes to audience’ – and lead the Function to deliver a range of comms and marketing needs activities.  

Experience

We are looking for a creative, ambitious manager ready to take the next step on their career ladder. 

  • You will be able to generate ideas and take them through to implementation. 
  • You will be excited by the opportunity to craft messages about the digital world and have an interest in technology and the changing digital landscape. 
  • You will be motivated by specific project targets and KPIs, in order to successfully market our products.
  • You will need excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy workload and team.
  • You will have experience of developing multifaceted communications plans and crafting messages for multiple audiences using a variety of formats, including social media, newsletters, emails, press releases, speeches, presentations and social media. 
  • You will have experience of using data to target audiences and a good understanding of the need to direct our messages effectively.
  • Crucially, you will be a calm multitasker with the ability to support new projects, explore new topics and react to a rapidly changing environment both internally and externally.

  • You will be able to plan, prioritise and execute Comms and Marketing strategies. 
  • You will display creativity and the ability to develop innovative communications. 
  • You will be able to collaborate with partner organisations to meet specific targets and KPIs, in order to support and enhance our product range.

Delivery Manager

Salary £35,000

Based: blended working with occasional attendance in our Islington office.

The role 

As Delivery Manager, you will be working with colleagues to deliver large scale projects with high profile, global partners. You will be coordinating a number of aspects across multiple complex projects including managing a team that includes remote workers, freelancers and planning efficient delivery plans and maintaining high standards at every level of delivery.

Skills and experience

  • You will be an exceptionally organised person with the ability to run complex projects and think about effective use of resources in your planning.

Full Stack Developer

Salary £35,000 

Based: blended working with occasional attendance in our Islington office.

The role 

We are looking for a talented and passionate Software Developer with experience in Drupal and PHP to work on a variety of exciting cross-platform projects helping children become safer and more confident in the digital world.

We are relaunching our website which holds different products contributing to our overall mission. Our web solutions have to be adaptable enough to meet the needs of schools, police forces and local authorities, as well as being effective public-facing sites. Our sites are built on Drupal 9, PHP and Gatsby and include some integration with third party tools.  

The ideal candidate has a passion for the web, brings in creative digital ideas and is a champion for Drupal 9. They will be excited by the opportunity to bring technical skills to a social enterprise that has relied on outsourcing thus far. 

Key requirements

  • Experience in using Drupal - ideally in using Drupal 9

  • Ability to create Drupal modules, implement hooks and pre-process functions

  • Full understanding of Drupal's API

  • Full understanding of Drupal security

  • Sound knowledge of Drupal theming and HTML / CSS / SASS

  • Experience of PHP and MySQL 

  • Coding ability using HTML5/CSS3 

  • Experience of jQuery and JavaScript

  • Experienced in OOP practices and design patterns

  • Solid experience and knowledge of the latest libraries and frameworks

  • Experience in how and when to use third party plugins - ideally Capsule CRM, MailChimp, Zapier, GitHub, etc.

  • Experience in using Gatsby or Netlify

  • Effective way of writing clear, understandable, scalable and maintainable code

  • Bringing your development experience from the initial discovery phase to design and delivery of new game features and improve existing ones

  • Knowledge and enjoying general IT support and improve our IT infrastructure - ideally experience with AWS, Docker, IONOS

  • Ability to scope solutions, provide accurate project estimates

  • Ability to produce defining documentation, best practice and coding standards

  • Ability to put in place appropriate Agile processes and structure for sprints 

  • Deliver foundational work as well as incremental improvements to new and already existing platforms

  • Enjoying the challenge of finding workable solutions in an agile environment and debugging production issues in live environments
