Communications Manager 

Salary: £35-37,000 (DOE)

The role 

This role will report directly to the Director of External Affairs, working alongside our Creative Function and our Policy Function to ensure our messages are reaching all of our audiences, including families. 

The right candidate will be a natural communicator and effective operational manager with the ability to understand our strategic priorities and translate them into creative and compelling communications activity. You will be comfortable delivering brand messages in multiple ways to diverse audiences, maximising our impact and helping us to ‘punch above our weight’. Critically, you will enjoy crafting targeted communications while understanding the need to maintain a cohesive brand. 

As a manager, you will know how to write and execute communications plans that can leverage all of the ‘routes to audience’ we have available, and support the Communications Function to deliver a range of communications activity.

  • You will have experience of using data to target audiences and a good understanding of the need to direct our messages effectively.

  • Crucially, you will be a calm multitasker with the ability to explore new topics and react to a rapidly changing environment both internally and externally.

Communications Intern

Salary: £18,000pa

The role 

This role will report to the Communications Manager and work alongside the Social Media and Marketing Associate as part of the Communications Function. 

Communications sits within our External Affairs Directorate, working alongside the Creative Function and the Policy Function to ensure our messages are reaching all of our audiences, including families. 

The Communications Intern will:

  • Support communications activity across all Parent Zone platforms and projects, including Be Internet Legends, delivered in partnership with Google

  • Manage our member and subscriber mailings

  • Manage Mailchimp, our email platform, including sending out and scheduling mailings and managing data

  • Create engaging copy for all Parent Zone platforms and comms channels, including website, newsletters and social media

  • Undertake tasks to support the delivery of Parent Zone projects as part of the wider Parent Zone team 

Skills and experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of writing copy for a range of communications channels

  • The ability to create engaging content relevant to multiple audiences, adapting tone and style as appropriate

  • A working understanding of email management platforms (eg Mailchimp) and customer relationship management systems (eg Capsule)

  • An interest in parenting and the challenges facing families and young people in the digital age

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills

  • The ability to multitask and prioritise in response to changing demands

Junior Partnerships Associate  

Salary £22-24,000 (DOE)

The role

To support the management and delivery of some of Parent Zone’s most exciting partnerships. Based in the partnerships team, you will be expected to assist in the day-to-day running and delivery of our client projects. This might involve leading on tasks within large scale projects, supporting the evaluation of our work or setting out and leading internal project briefings. 

This role is perfect for anyone who has exceptional organisational and communication skills, enjoys working on interesting - yet challenging - projects and is looking for an opportunity to work in one of the most fascinating spaces for families. 

Your role will be critical to ensuring that Parent Zone’s partnership programmes are running as smoothly as possible with a view to managing your own projects in the future. 

While the majority of this role will allow you to work from home, you will be expected to work from our London office during part of the week, as well as at other key moments of the year.

Key responsibilities 

As junior partnerships associate, you will be responsible for: 

  • Understanding Parent Zone – who we are as an organisation, our mission, and where our partnerships fit into this 

  • Working with and supporting the Head of Partnerships and Partnership managers in their project delivery, which may include organising focus groups, creating project plans or writing internal briefs on certain project tasks 

  • Leading on and delivering a wide range of tasks and activities within our partner projects to an exceptional standard 

  • Dealing with and responding to client requests – alongside project managers – where appropriate 

  • Supporting the overall day-to-day activity of the Partnerships team 

Essential criteria 

  • Highly organised and proactive 

  • Possesses outstanding attention to detail – including having a critical eye 

  • A confident and clear communicator who is able to work in a small, dynamic team 

  • Takes a proactive approach to your tasks and works to your initiative - Trustworthy and dependable 

  • Has an eagerness to learn and get your hands dirty 

Desirable criteria 

  • Experience of project management 

  • Experience of working and communicating with corporate clients

  • Prior experience in education and/or and understanding of the challenges families face with regards to tech and digital

Junior Designer (intern)

Salary: £18,000

The role

As a design intern, you will be responsible for ensuring that we always look our best and our services are a joy to use. This means working with our Senior Designer to create digital and print assets for all of our projects – including those with high profile, global partners.

This role sits in our Creative Function, collaborating with writers and other functions and project teams. 


  • Production of visual assets for the Parent Zone websites and social media channels

  • Production of visual assets for the Parent Zone projects and partnerships

  • Creating comms and marketing templates

  • Creating and managing the development of resource materials – PDFs, lesson plans, Slides decks, interactive presentations etc 

  • Creating templates for Google documents and Slides

  • Commissioning and managing print production

  • Reviewing, sourcing and managing our picture library and the use of images across our channels

  • Acting as a brand guardian including housekeeping of templates and ensuring new assets align with company branding

Skills and experience


  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud 

  • BA (Hons) in Graphic Design/Graphic Communication Design/Graphic Media Design or equivalent 

  • Experience/passion for creating visual assets for digital campaigns, website, social media and email. Up-to-date with social media trends

  • Knowledge of branding and visual identity, with an interest in applying it to a global brand

  • Experience of designing for print and managing print production

  • Good understanding and experience of user interface design for web and mobile

  • Able to work both remotely and also attend office-based work in our London office when required.

  • Passionate about great design and keen to keep learning and developing

  • Hard worker who thrives in a fast-moving environment

  • Understanding of the opportunities, challenges and harms families, schools and young people encounter in a connected world


  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional experience
  • An interest in creating and editing film, animation and motion graphics
  • Experience creating templates and managing assets in G-Suite
