Embracing AI: The Benefits of Artificial Intelligence

As parents navigate the ever-evolving landscape of technology, questions about artificial intelligence (AI) are front of mind.

We have previously talked about what parents need to be aware of in our Demystifying Tech - AI article. In this article we explore some of the benefits of AI and the positive impacts that families can look forward to.

Education

Educational institutions are beginning to integrate AI into their teaching methods. This includes tech that can adapt to individual learning styles. For example, resources to help SEND students.

Some AI platforms can be used to assess each child's strengths and weaknesses, offering personalised exercises that help them thrive academically.

As this technology becomes more widely available, more children may receive the additional support they need to excel, reducing the frustration sometimes associated with one-size-fits-all education.

Safety

AI presents many safety concerns but it is also enhancing some of the safety measures used by platforms These include:

  • identifying bullying behaviour in emails, texts and other communication
  • identifying and removing child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
  • age estimation without the need for additional age ID checks

Health

Healthcare providers such as the NHS are beginning to embrace the use of AI technologies to increase the efficiency of their services, possibly reduce the stress of waiting rooms and making healthcare more accessible for busy families .

AI can be used to track symptoms, suggest when to seek medical advice and streamline the process of getting care.

Creativity

Along with increasing efficiency, AI can also foster creativity and it is a great way for parents to work together with their children as they learn new skills.

Creativity is an important part of learning and play for all children and AI offers new ways to foster it. Lots of apps are age restricted but there are some for most age groups.

Examples of these apps include Socratic by Google - an AI-powered app designed for ages 13+ but can be used by younger children with adult supervision. This can help kids with homework by providing step-by-step solutions and explanations for maths, science, history, and more.

For children under 13, there are many suitable apps such as Kidgeni to help them learn and grow through interactive content, personalised learning paths, and fun experiences.

A valuable tool
