The Tech Shock podcast – Digital resilience, wellbeing and the online world
“The safest place for a young person to be struggling with their mental health [...] probably, is online – on a major tech platform. The hazard is making changes that push kids to less regulated spaces.”
Being digitally resilient involves understanding certain possible risks when online, knowing where to get help when needed and having the support to recover when things go wrong, and also learning from experiences.
The discussion around online safety can, however, begin to shift away from developing digital resilience and move more towards bans and regulations due to certain emerging harms.
This week, Vicki is joined by Andy Przybylski, professor of Human Behaviour and Technology at the OII, Oxford University. They look at how relevant digital resilience is today, alongside what research actually says about how internet use relates to wellbeing.
