The Tech Shock podcast – smartphone bans: the parent perspective

"Technology is our children’s future and as bizarre as it may seem, their way of communicating is so different to how I communicated before the days of mobile phones and the internet."

Two months after the Department for Education announced guidance on the use of mobile phones in schools, a smartphone ban for under-16s – one which extends beyond the school gates – is being actively discussed.

In a slight change for Tech Shock, we asked parents to get in touch and tell us how they felt about the possibility of such a ban – whether they’d support it, what concerns they’d have and how it would impact family life.

Vicki is joined by a member of the Parent Zone Studio to share and discuss some of the contributions we received from parents.
