Be Internet Citizens Media Literacy Programme

Empowering young people online

Be Internet Citizens is a media literacy programme from YouTube and Parent Zone. It offers free training and resources for professionals who work with young people, including secondary schools.

It teaches young people aged 13-15 practical digital skills, critical thinking and positive citizenship online. The resources can be used to help schools and settings respond to negative online content and influences and issues including disinformation, misogyny, divisive influencers and AI deepfakes.

"After learning about disinformation, I plan to do things differently by double-checking things that look suspicious and checking with adults I trust."

The Be Internet Citizens curriculum builds on the Poynter Institute’s MediaWise and the Digital Inquiry Group

It is adapted for the UK by Parent Zone.
