The Tech Shock podcast – Adrienne Katz and the Annual Cyber Survey
“The relationship between mental health and online life – we have to think of it as bi-directional [...] this idea that phones single-handedly cause mental health problems has been challenged.”
As the Tech Shock podcast returns for its 9th season, we continue to look at emerging tech like AI, growing areas of concern – for example, digital surveillance, and child financial harms – as well as the possible impact of regulation in 2024 and beyond.
Our first guest of season 9 is the director of Youthworks, Adrienne Katz. She joins Vicki to unpack the findings from Youthwork’s Annual Cyber Survey which, running since 2008, aims to capture what it’s actually like for young people to grow up in (and experience) the online world.
They discuss how time spent online can impact emotional wellbeing, how gender can influence media literate – or risk-taking – behaviours, and factors that can affect digital resilience.
